Don't listen to the misinformed

So I received a phone call from a new homeschoolers who was told that if she handn't already filed her homeschooling forms that she could be arrested.

That is the kind if misinformation and alarmist reactions that scare people away from homeschooling. I gave her the correct information she needed, but I made a video to vent.

The moral of the story is, don't let random educators (who are not intimately aware of homeschooling) to give you homeschooling advice. Chances are they will be wrong.

My guess is this person got their information from the fact that a local homeschooling mom was arrested last year for educational neglect. They had been "homeschooling" for years and had not filed any paperwork or done any testing. (If I remember correctly, there were some other illegal things going in the house too).

So please, don't let peopel scare you... check with a homeschooling expert

Hi Andrea, I try to follow the Carnival and I came over and HELLO, there's a familiar face.

How old is Jordan these days?

We still have your Ed Mouse painting up in the office. Are you still painting?

Hi John.... Jordan is 14 and starting 10th grade. She had such a great start with your elementary school curriculum that she finished middle school in 2 years.

I write alot more than I paint these days, but am trying to get back into it more.

Even though I checked out the homeschool laws in GA on the HSLDA website I wasn't sure how often they update the site so I check on our states board of education website and found the number to my local homeschool coordinator. I have been on forums where other moms have misinformed other moms on there states laws and I always find myself jumping in to correct them. But the funny thing is it is never well recieved. I don't get it. Why would you want to misinform another mom just starting out.

Isn't that something Erin. My only guess is that there are alot of people who want to become homeschooling "experts". Call them out on misinformation and you ruin the illusion.
